We are currently accepting applications from qualified independent professionals across all book-production disciplines.
Why This Directory Exists
Helping Authors Find the Right Professionals
Authors may need editing, proofreading, formatting, cover design, illustration, marketing, audiobook production, or other professional assistance to prepare their books.
The Making Sense Press Professional Directory exists to help authors discover independent providers — without requiring them to purchase those services as part of a bundled publishing package. Authors choose whom to contact, contract with, and pay directly.
Independent Professionals
Professionals listed in the directory are independent businesses and service providers — not employees or contractors of Making Sense Press.
Direct Relationships
Authors contract with and pay listed professionals directly. Making Sense Press does not become responsible for their work merely because they are listed.
Author Freedom
Authors may also choose professionals from outside the directory, use existing relationships, or perform qualified work themselves.

Who We're Looking For
We are looking for experienced and talented independent professionals across the full range of book-production disciplines. No college degree, professional certification, or minimum years of experience is required — applicants are evaluated primarily on the quality and relevance of their work.

How It Works
Selective and curated
The Making Sense Press Professional Directory is selective. Every application is reviewed individually. Submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance. Applicants are evaluated primarily on the quality and relevance of their work, the accuracy of the services they represent, and their overall professionalism.
No degree or certification required
Making Sense Press does not require a college degree, professional certification, or a minimum number of years of experience. Talented professionals may qualify based on the quality of their work.
Work examples are required
Applicants must provide examples of completed work or links to a portfolio, website, published work, or another source where relevant examples can be reviewed. Applicants should also briefly explain what services they personally performed on the examples they submit.
One listing, up to two categories
Each approved professional receives one directory listing for one year. Your listing is placed in up to two approved directory categories. You may mention other services you provide within your listing, but additional category placements beyond the two included are available for an additional fee.
Payment requested only after approval
Making Sense Press does not request payment at the time of application. If your application is approved, you will be contacted with instructions for completing your listing and submitting payment.
Direct author relationships
Authors contact and contract directly with listed professionals. Making Sense Press does not manage, mediate, or guarantee those relationships. Your income and client agreements remain entirely your own.

An approved listing in the Making Sense Press Professional Directory is renewed annually. The annual listing fee covers one professional profile with placement in up to two approved categories. Placement in up to two additional approved categories is available for $149 per year.

Independent Professional Disclaimer: Professionals listed in the Making Sense Press directory are independent businesses and service providers — not employees, contractors, or representatives of Making Sense Press or Lisa Tarves LLC. Authors contract with and pay listed professionals directly. Making Sense Press does not supervise their work, set their fees, collect payment on their behalf, or become a party to agreements between professionals and authors. Inclusion in the directory does not constitute a guarantee or warranty of a professional's services or results.
